gender affirming voicework

Through music, we will collaboratively explore and play with your voice, accessing and embodying sounds that are affirming to you. We might focus on your speaking voice, your singing voice, or both!

Is this for me?

The short answer - possibly! As research indicates, our voices shift:

  • as we develop from childhood into adolescence, then through adulthood and into later years in life as older adults

  • through menstrual cycle rhythms

  • through the transition of peri/menopause

  • through hormonal changes within the body

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can impact vocal shifts. You might notice vocal instability, cracks, and register changes if you are receiving HRT to support with the embodiment of your gender, or for symptom management/relief with body changes as you age.

All of the listed experiences can affect your voice, as well as your relationship to your voice, body, gender, and the way that you show up in this world. If you are looking for support with navigating these vocal changes, then this work is for you!

music therapy sessions

A music therapy session molds and shifts depending on the person or people I am working alongside. Several approaches to our work will include one or more of the four main modalities of music therapy: songwriting, improvisation, receptive listening, and/or recreation of music.

Is this for me?

In using music as the avenue for expression, emotional holding, and exploration, we can address any of the following:

  • grief / bereavement – death of loved one

  • memory care/support – pre-hospice diagnosis only

  • symptom management (pain, nausea, treatment effects, etc.)

  • support with re-learning speech

If you are interested in music therapy, but are not sure if you would benefit, please reach out! I’d love to hear more about what you are looking for, and see what might be the best support for you.
